DSDM is an agile project management methodology covering full project lifecycle that promotes iterative development with distinct exploration and implementation phases.
People mistakenly understand agile as communication, openness or transparency, while it's all important, agile is mostly all about continuous delivery of software valuable to customers. It means that the customer and delivery aspects are more important than technology and programmers. To build an agile team means to shift the focus on shipping artifacts rather than internal improvements. Continuous delivery means painstakingly taking sprint deadlines seriously to make sure the customer receives working software. The amount of value incremented with each iteration is negotiable, however delivering reliable version on time is not negotiable.
The eight Principles of DSDM:
- Focus on the business need
- Deliver on time
- Collaborate
- Never compromise quality
- Build incrementally from firm foundations
- Develop iteratively
- Communicate continuously and clearly
- Demonstrate control
