Windows-native · built on the Matbot runtime
One assistant. A runtime you compose.
Cortex feels like one friendly assistant in your browser, while its local workbench is assembled from providers, plugins, workspaces, memory, and experts. Your machine, your rules.
- Runs on your machine
- Workspace isolation
- Local-first runtime

The product
One control surface for a composed local runtime.
The WebUI is the visible control surface. Beneath it, the Matbot runtime loads exactly what the active workspace calls for—and nothing more.
Each workspace carries its own providers, plugins, memories, skills, files, and RAG indexes. Legal review stays separate from product research, while each environment remains explicit and auditable.
Cortex keeps the assistant familiar while allowing the underlying runtime to be configured, extended, or reduced for the work at hand.
Core capabilities
Everything a local workbench should do.
Six capabilities, one assistant. Each can be loaded, changed, or removed per workspace.
Local chat
A fast, familiar conversation surface powered entirely by the runtime on your machine.
Provider selection
Switch between OpenAI-compatible providers or local models per workspace and conversation.
Durable memory
Facts, skills, and memory stay useful inside the active workspace without becoming shared context.
Controlled file access
Safe file indexing and access are governed by the local services and workspace configuration.
Markdown RAG
Workspace markdown and indexed files return through retrieval layers, including contextual search.
Expert panel
Selected domain experts answer independently, then synthesize a cited decision in one response.
Product experience
Configure the runtime. Keep the work local.
Conversations, providers, files, experts, workspaces, and settings are all available through a single browser control surface.
